Innovation Team of Utilization and Biosynthesis of Bioactive Compounds

Research objective: 

To fully mine the effects of functional components of natural products, and promote the width and depth of application of these components, this team employs the omics and biotechnology to analysis the pathways of key genes involved in biosynthesis and then creates the new germplasm and relative materials as  requirements.

Research topic: 

The team mainly focuses on analysis, characterization and utilization of functional components from natural products, and applies these functional components into food, medicine such as antiviral agents and cosmetics etc. Then, the omics and molecular biology technology would be employed to identify the key genes involved in the pathway of biosynthesis including oil and terpenes and reconstruct that pathway to improve the contents. Also, the team uses fermentation technology to produce the target functional components at large scale to meet the demand in practice.

Research achievement:

 The group hosted more than 60 scientific projects including National Natural Scientific Foundation of China and Key Research and Development of Nation. Until now, more than 110 research papers in food science, nutrition, medicine, biosynthesis and biomateria had been publishedl. In addition, the team had developed several bio-based products such as edible films based on the polysaccharides from jute leaves and provided a green material for freshness preservation of fruit and vegetable.
